AMC opened the Asan Medical Center Heart Institute that can regularly handle heart disease emergencies for the first time among local university hospitals. The newly opened Heart Institute is operated 24 as the disease often requires emergency care, and equipped with an integrated treatment system offering both internal treatment and surgical treatment. The Heart Institute consists of the atrial fibrillation Center specializing in angina pectoris, myocardial infarction and arrhythmia, and the Vascular Disease Center mainly dealing with terminal-stage cardiac insufficiency and heart transplantation and diagnosing and treating other vascular disorders. The Heart Institute, which was originally launched as the Heart Center at the time of the opening of AMC, succeeded in the nations first coronary artery stenting in 1991, heart transplantation and artificial heart transplantation for the past 20 years.
