The Asan Foundation held the awarding ceremony for the 21st Asan Award at the Asan Education and Research Hall auditorium with Chairman Chung Mong Joon and 300 distinguished guests and awardees present. At the ceremony were presented prizes of 9 different sectors including the Asan Grand Prix, Medical Service Prize, Volunteer Prize, Welfare Practice Prize and Special Prize. Chairman Chung Mong Joon of Asan Foundation All of you awardees are the ones who practice what used to be preached by my late father. The Multicultural Family Prize was newly created this year, and these two here became the first winners for creating a happy family despite harsh conditions. Many around us live in pain. I believe all the awardees are the messengers of hope and love desperately needed for those in pain. You can make our community warmer and brighter. The Asan Grand Prix went to Director Bae Hyeon Jeong of Jeonjinsang Hospital, a blue-eyed doctor, who remained committed to serving the underprivileged in deprived areas for the past 34 years. Director Bae Hyeon Jeong winner of the Asan Grand Prix I could not have done this alone. It is an honor for me to be given such a prize by Korean people. I will work harder to provide quality care to terminal-stage cancer patients and the underprivileged. The Asan Foundations support is a great help. The Medical Service Prize was given to the Smile Foundation that has been providing free dental care to low-income disabled people. The Special Prize was given to KBSs Love in Asia for making contributions to eliminating biases against multicultural families. The Welfare Practice Prize was presented to 5 winners including Kim Bong Ja from the Seoul City Home for Boys, and the Volunteer Prize to 5 volunteers including Kim Yeong Chil.
